The schedule is a thorn

Creativity and good ideas don't keep office hours and that being said our supposed circadian rhythms do, and brutally so.   I often think that the life of a true creative is torturous just on a sleep level, because you may be inspired at times when its socially unacceptable, like be a metal sculptor and feeling the need to grind and weld but living in a space with noise regulations. Myself, being a digital creative, it comes down to screen time, domestic and family interactions, and limits of computer and camera hardware. I have a canon EOS M10 mirror-less camera that I was using with a 3D printed tilt-shift camera adapter and unfortunately the adaptor cracked and died.  I'm hoping to revisit the tilt shift idea with an old EF mount I have, and a tougher 3D printed cylinder to accommodate the 50mm F1.4 Canon FD lens I have butchered for this project.  And that's just for some of my photographic and video aspirations.  My morning creativity starts as soon a...

Some time along...

We creatives beat ourselves up a lot. Its really a bad thing. It leads to aggravated imposter syndrome and often that is quite crippling on its own. It necessitates a certain amount of not-caring-at-all-and-just-being-yourself.  I can say that after 35 years of a very peculiar creative journey, (in my opinion) its still not something I do with reckless abandon in all my creative endeavours. But its still not great. So gradually having technology do for me what I wasn't able to do with my hands, has been a gigantic enabler. Now I'm ...

Day 1

Image
Greetings, and welcome to today, day 1 for me back at work in 2025.  It's also a start of a new season of just trying to output as much creativity in all the forms I can as possible. Less consuming and more producing is my plan this year. Pictured belove is my computer "Cave". I think every creative should have such a spot. So with that in mind, from Monday to Friday, I get up at 5am and work on my writing until 6:30am. Currently I'm working on a novel and also a graphic novel and screenplay of the same story. I guess this is my finding a creative rhythm in all the different creative things I do.  When I'm seated here at 5am its just me associating the space with writing productively, and it works I find. I find my flow state more easily knowing this is my writing spot. Now I just need to find other time slots where I can link my music and arty creativity to. I had a 22 inch drawing pen and tablet that I bought in 2021 give up the ghost suddenly near the end of l...
